Dr Raza Naqvi
Dr. Raza Naqvi is a Geriatric Medicine Specialist practicing in the Toronto area in Canada. He completed his medical school at the University of Western Ontario and went on to complete his residency in Internal Medicine and fellowship in Geriatric Medicine from the University of Toronto.
He went on to complete a Masters Degree in Bioethics from the University of Toronto as well.
He is currently a Part-Time Assistant Professor in the Division of Geriatric Medicine at the University of Toronto. He works in an acute care hospital caring for vulnerable older adults in inpatient settings, an outpatient clinic, and provides clinical support for several local long-term care homes.
After having cared for people with dementia and related conditions for over 10 years, Dr. Naqvi has shifted his primary focus to preventive care rather than reactionary medicine which is practiced in most areas of the world.
Dr. Naqvi is the Chief Medical Officer of Deter Dementia and helped co-found the organization in 2024.
"Although treating those with dementia is of utmost importance in the present day, we need to shift our focus to being proactive and help prevent future cognitive impairment for those who are currently healthy. It is incredible that nearly 90% of dementia can be prevented with optimal lifestyle, social interventions, and other proactive and evidence-based decisions."
